BMAA stands for
beta-Methylamino-L-alanine which is or BMAA, is a
non-proteinogenic amino acid produced by cyanobacteria. The top green box in
the EPA newsletter provides a link to a story on the research that links
BMAA to neurological disorders including ALS, Parkinson’s disease and
Alzheimer’s.

this March 2012 story that was published in a journal that is part of the US
National Library of Medicine’s online material titled, The Emerging Science
of BMAA: Do Cyanobacteria Contribute to Neurodegenerative Disease?
